Societal Restrictions on Men: How They Contribute to Depression and Anxiety.




Although having a diversified population and a rich cultural background, India is not without
misconceptions and societal restrictions. Men in India are subject to the same pressure and expectations that their families and society place on girls, despite the fact that girls frequently experience more outward social limitations. Men may experience depression and anxiety as a result of these restrictions, therefore it's critical to recognize and treat these problems in order to promote men's mental health and wellbeing.


The pressure to achieve is one of the most important social restrictions youngsters in India must deal with. Men are under a lot of pressure to succeed because they are frequently expected to excel in both their academic and professional achievements. While some men may find this pressure motivating, if other men feel as though they are failing short of expectations, it may cause anxiety and depression. In households where there is a lot of family drama or if the children's success is linked to the family's social background, this pressure may be extremely intense.

Lack of emotional support is another social restriction that can cause depression and anxiety in men. It might be challenging for men in India to ask for emotional support when they need it since they are usually taught to suppress their emotions and not display weakness. This may cause feelings of loneliness and isolation, which may increase depression and anxiety. Men may believe they must manage things alone and may not be comfortable discussing their feelings with loved ones or close friends.

Men depression and anxiety may also be caused by gender expectations. Men in India are frequently pressured to fit into traditional masculine norms, which can limit their opportunities and make them feel as though they are not living up to expectations. For example, because creative and artistic jobs are viewed as less "masculine" than careers in science or engineering, males may be discouraged from pursuing them. This may result in low self-esteem and feelings of inadequacy, which may intensify sadness and anxiety.

Finally, there is still a taboo associated with mental health in India, which can make it difficult for males to get the care they need if they are experiencing depression or anxiety. Men may be hesitant to seek help out of embarrassment or shame, or they may not even be aware that they are dealing with a mental health problem. This may cause people to suffer in silence and prevent them from seeking the support they require to heal.

It's critical to address these societal limitations and misconceptions in hopes of improving the mental health and general welfare of men in India. A more caring and inclusive culture can be developed by encouraging men to seek emotional support, challenging gender misconceptions, and lowering the judgment linked to mental health. Men can benefit greatly from the support of their parents, teachers, and other people in talking about their emotions and asking for assistance when they do. We can encourage men in India to grow and achieve great things by establishing a more friendly and inclusive environment.
